Has new digital media had an impact upon ownership and control of the media institution(s) involved in your case study area? Explain in detail any impact and what exactly has changed. Netflix has caused a lot of shit in the film industry cos they didnt think it would get big but now it has like 20 million subscribers n that so they have more dollar to buy more films. So its affected sales in new films n that cos now people dont mind waitin' for it too be released to Netflix so they can stream it through der ipads and bare ting yer. So now, like the big guys down at Hollywood are all like "we ain't selling you our films n shit" and then Netflix are all like "your films are shit anyway" and now Hollywood have control over how Netflix buy their films - but independant films are happy to sell to Netflix so now everyone is watching independant films ennit. http://www.dailytech.com/Hollywood+Executives+Fear+Netflixs+Impact+on+Film+Industry/article21075.htm

What concerns/considerations are there (if any) for the media institutions involved in your case study as a result of the impact of new digital media?

My case study explores the impact of new digital media on today’s society and how it inflicts upon current issues in our modern culture. I considered the two news institutions, Sky and BBC, during this investigation, I considered how new technologies have affected or helped their development.
As the two institutions have adapted to the ever-changing and improving technologies, they are forced to compete and keep up with other institutions, as well as keeping up with a modern tech-savvy audience. With the world online and an estimate of 85% of Britain accessing the internet, these corporations have to adapt to suit all audiences. New technologies such as the BBC iPlayer have sparked a huge change within the media and have caused other companies to struggle to adapt.
As the BBC is funded off money from TV licences, they do not need to worry about advertising, therefore their services online are free. For example, their online news is regularly updated with the same stories people would typically have to pay for to read in a newspaper, this triggers a worry for other institutions to provide the same services for free – causing a decline in print sales and a loss of profit for many.
Web 2.0 is one of the main reasons behind ……………………………………………………. Incomplete.
